Reflecting on Two Decades with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
Twenty years. It feels both like a lifetime and yet like only yesterday that I first stepped into the legendary Concertgebouw Hall in Amsterdam.
The Beginning
The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra holds a special place in the hearts of musicians and audiences alike. The acoustic perfection of the hall, combined with the extraordinary caliber of the musicians, creates an environment where great music can truly flourish.
World Premieres
One of the privileges of working with such an ensemble has been the opportunity to conduct world premieres of contemporary works. Over these two decades, I have had the honor of introducing many new compositions to audiences—each premiere a unique moment of musical discovery.
Looking Forward
As I reflect on this milestone, I am filled with gratitude for every rehearsal, every performance, and every moment of musical connection. The journey continues, with new repertoire to explore and new stories to tell through music.
Thank you to the incredible musicians of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and to audiences everywhere who make this life in music possible.
